How Pricing Works

We charge a flat $99 diagnostic for the visit, which covers a full inspection and identification of the fault. Once we know exactly what is wrong you get a firm, written quote before any work starts — never a surprise bill afterwards.

If you go ahead with the repair on that same visit, the $99 is waived entirely. Component-level work — sensors, boards, fans, igniters, valves — is the large majority of what we do. Sealed-system and compressor jobs sit well above that, which is why they are listed separately rather than buried in an average.

Written quote before any work
Parts and labor both included in the quote
Warranty of up to 1 year on the repair
No charge if we cannot fix it

Typical Ranges by Symptom

Planning ranges, not quotes. Where your repair lands inside a range depends on the brand, the model, and which specific component turns out to be at fault — all of which the diagnostic settles before you commit to anything.

Symptom Typical range Usually comes down to
Diagnostic / service call $99 Waived when you go ahead with the repair
Refrigerator not cooling $360–$1,100 Evaporator fan, defrost circuit, thermistor or control fault
Ice maker not working $275–$830 Fill valve, module, or a frozen supply line
Door or drawer not sealing $235–$590 Gasket, hinge alignment, or a panel-ready door out of true
Wine column not holding temperature $395–$1,400 Damper, sensor, or a dual-zone control fault
Compressor / sealed system $1,450–$3,600 Includes licensed refrigerant handling and pressure testing
Oven not heating $295–$795 Bake or broil element, igniter, or thermostat
Burner won’t ignite $215–$505 Igniter, spark module, or a clogged orifice
Induction element or power fault $370–$1,100 Element, power board, or a failed cooling fan
Dishwasher won’t drain $220–$550 Pump, check valve, or a blocked drain path
Dishwasher leaking $250–$635 Door seal, sump gasket, or a cracked fitting
Error code / control board fault $320–$1,250 Board, harness, or the sensor the board is reading
Salt-air condenser service $185–$460 Corroded coil and fan clean-down on coastal installations

What Moves the Price

Which part actually failed
A thermistor and a control board produce identical symptoms and differ by several hundred dollars. Guessing at that before diagnosis helps nobody.
Parts availability for your model
Current models carry stocked parts. Units past fifteen years sometimes need a sourced or superseded component, which moves both price and timeline.
How close you are to the water
Salt air corrodes condenser coils and fan motors years earlier in Malibu, Venice and Marina del Rey than it does inland. Sometimes that means a clean-down rather than a part.
Access and installation
A panel-ready column built into cabinetry takes longer to pull and reset than a freestanding unit — and in the hillside houses above Sunset, getting it out of the kitchen is its own job.

Repair Cost, Answered

Why ranges instead of one number?
Because a single number before diagnosis would be a guess. The same symptom can trace to a $40 sensor or an $800 board, and quoting the midpoint would be wrong in both directions. The $99 diagnostic replaces the range with a firm figure.
How does the $99 diagnostic work?
It covers the visit and a full inspection, and you get a written repair quote before anything is touched. Go ahead with the repair on that visit and the $99 is waived. Decline it and you have paid $99 for a straight answer about your appliance, with no obligation.
What does a compressor or sealed-system repair cost?
Typically $1,450–$3,600, including parts and the licensed refrigerant handling the work requires. We only quote sealed-system repairs after pressure testing — quoting one off the symptom alone is the most common reason this repair ends up being done twice.
Does it cost more if I’m at the far end of the county?
No. The diagnostic is the same $99 in Santa Barbara or Pomona as it is in Beverly Hills, and there is no distance surcharge. What the spread does affect is scheduling: the outer edges of our area sometimes get a next-day window rather than same-day, and we tell you that when you book rather than on the day.
Why does a coastal repair sometimes cost less?
Because near the water the fault is often corrosion rather than a failed component. A condenser coil and fan clean-down runs $185–$460 and restores cooling without replacing anything — which is why we check for it first on Santa Monica, Malibu and Venice calls before quoting a part.
Is it worth repairing, or should I replace?
If the repair approaches half the cost of an equivalent new unit and the appliance is well past ten years old, replacement usually wins. We will tell you that plainly. See repair or replace for how we weigh it.
